Power For Women Joins YABA: Championing Safety, Equality & Empowerment
Power For Women is proud to announce its official membership with the Yorkshire Asian Business Association (YABA) as a corporate member. This exciting partnership opens the door to meaningful collaborations, wider community engagement, and greater impact through a shared commitment to safety, empowerment, and equality.
Operating nationally, Power For Women is an organisation dedicated to helping women build confidence and stay safe through self-defence. But its work goes far beyond physical techniques alone. The organisation takes a holistic approach that blends practical tactics with mindset coaching, psychology, and empowerment strategies tailored specifically to how women are targeted in the real world, based on real-world data and statistics.
Most self-defence training has historically been built for men. Power For Women’s One Step Ahead programme changes that. It’s a ground-breaking model designed specifically for women – blending psychology, situational awareness, and simple but powerful tactics to help women feel calm, confident, and capable wherever they go. The programme is rooted in the reality that most violence against women happens in everyday places – at work, commuting, at home, in public places and isolates spaces – not in staged scenarios.
Since early 2024, the organisation has empowered over 2,000 women and girls through this model, offering in-person sessions, online learning, and a unique digital platform. Their work has been endorsed by respected leaders across sectors, including Prof. Helen Pankhurst (great-granddaughter of suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst), John Healey MP, Secretary of State for Defence, and Cllr Tracy Stones of the Conservative Women’s Organisation (CWO). These endorsements, along with continued support from university executives, police officials, Lord Mayors, and figures in both the private and public sectors, not only validate the organisation’s work – they inspire it to keep scaling its impact.
As one participant, Elizabeth V., an educator, shared:
“I trained in karate. It didn’t help me on the street when I needed it. This will. I started practicing right away.”
Power For Women has partnered with institutions such as University of Sheffield, York St John’s University, and University Centre Rotherham, and is collaborating with NatWest and TransPennine Express to help safeguard frontline staff as part of their corporate social responsibility. The organisation is also pioneering a new initiative with North Yorkshire Police and local stakeholders through the Clear Hold Build programme, which supports community safety and cohesion.
“This isn’t just a manual. It’s a survival system. A mindset shift and something I’ll be practising with my daughters.” – Claudia F., Pharmaceutical Lab Technician
Power For Women’s CEO is also the author of the book “Introducing Women’s Self Defence”, available on Amazon and WHSmith. This is a practical and follow-along guide that reflects the organisation’s unique philosophy. Training is delivered both in person and online, ensuring access for women and organisations across the UK.
