Wykeham Cricket Festival 2025 brining communities together – A Railway 200 Project
Wicketz Yorkshire aims to make a lasting positive effect on those living in high deprived areas in Yorkshire, using Cricket as the hook. The project gets children off the streets and into cricket as well as working on community cohesion through a number of different activities.
By establishing sustainable community cricket hubs, they aim to provide year-round weekly cricket sessions for youngsters with a focus on developing crucial life skills.
Northern has partnered with Wicketz Yorkshire for the last four years to support young people in deprived communities.
Today over 60 young people from across Leeds, Bradford, Hull, and North Yorkshire’s different communities came together play cricket and more importantly meet other young people from different communities. As always Whistle could not help himself and joined in with a game of cricket.
I must give a huge thank you to Wykeham Cricket Club who organised the event. A fantastic club doing fantastic things in the community. Also, a huge thank you England and cricket legend Sir Geoffrey Boycott who dropped in to chat with the players.
